TOWN OF BELOIT (WKOW) -- Authorities spent several hours in a standoff with an armed man at a home in the town of Beloit.
Just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, Rock County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 hang up call that came from a house on E. West Hart Road.
Deputies say it appeared Kevin Thiele, 29, was under the influence. He had a weapon during a dispute with one of his parents while two children were in the home. The Beloit man would not communicate or cooperate with deputies, so they called in help from Beloit police and the Rock County SWAT team hostage negotiators.
Authorities say negotiators worked to talk Thiele out of the home for three hours, but convinced him to release his children and surrender to the SWAT team shortly after 5 p.m.
No one was hurt and officials say the surrender was peaceful. Neighbors were told to stay inside during the standoff.
Thiele was taken to the Rock County Jail where he's being held on charges of disorderly conduct/domestic violence while armed, recklessly endangering safety and failure to comply with officer's attempts to take him into custody.
