WASHBURN (WKOW) -- The historic Telemark Lodge and Resort in Bayfield County has been abandoned and a judge rules this could expedite foreclosure proceedings and possibly attract a new owner.
The lodge, built in 1972, is the starting point for the American Birkebeiner, an annual cross-country race that attracts skiers from around the world. In recent court hearings, it was revealed the lodge hasn't had electricity or running water since March and there's evidence of looting in the 150-room resort.
Mortgage holder Dick Short says the abandonment ruling means the title can be cleared of lien holders, which will be more attractive to potential buyers.
