MADISON (WKOW) -- Hilarity is not the usual response to the ovarian cancer experience, but theater professional Laura Clark Hansen brings laughter and tears to the audience as she engages them in her "adventures with ovarian cancer."
Hansen's one-woman show, "Please Send Hats," will highlight the annual Sparkle of Hope being held October 3 to raise money for gynecologic cancer research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
Hansen, a Madison native, was living in the Twin Cities where she worked as an actress and theatrical producer, when she was diagnosed with stage II-C ovarian cancer in 2005.
She moved back to the Madison area to be close to family for what she thought might be her last months. Instead, treatment was successful and she went on to apply her acting skills to telling the world about gynecologic cancer, which will affect one woman in every 20.
The event will be on October 3 at 5:30 p.m. at The Madison Concourse Hotel at 1 West Dayton Street in Madison.
