KENYA (WKOW) – The Kenyan Foreign Minister says one of the Americans taking part in the vicious terrorist attack in Kenya used to live in Minnesota.
Minnesota has the largest Somali community in the United States. Since 2007, at least 22 young men have left the state to join the terrorist group behind the deadly attack on a mall.
At a news conference at a mosque in Minneapolis on Monday, Islamic and Somali community leaders condemned the attack as one that has no place in Islam.
Somali leader Imam Abdisalam Adam says, "Those perpetrator of this violent act do not share our Islamic values. In fact, these groups have done more harm to Islam and Muslims over the years."
Somali leaders also say the safety and security of the United States is of utmost importance to the Somali-American community.
