John O'Hurley starring in "Chicago", coming to Madison next week

MADISON (WKOW -- The Broadway show "Chicago" is coming to Madison next week, and it's starring someone you might recognize from the TV show, "Seinfeld".

John O'Hurley stopped in the WKOW studio Thursday morning to talk about his role as Billy Flynn in the Broadway musical. He says performing live on stage is a very authentic experience.

"I have been doing this character since 2005," O'Hurley said. "I have done over 1000 shows. It never gets tiring to me because the character gets deeper, and deeper, and deeper as I explore it every night on stage."

O'Hurley played J. Peterman on "Seinfeld".

"My character, J. Peterman that I played, the lunatic that I played on the show, is still something that lives in me and I pull him out for advertising purposes," O'Hurley said. "I still have a lot of fun with him. He was a great character and I still embrace him."

He says he misses the show "a great deal."

"You were in the cathedral when you were working there," O'Hurley said. "It was a very special time and a very special group of people that has not been recreated, and I don't think it will be in our time again. We don't have writers that are taking those kind of chances anymore."

O'Hurley also was the host of "Family Feud".

"Chicago" opens in Madison at the Overture Center on Tuesday night.
