MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison attorney was charged with six felony counts of sexual assault, and a felony charge of providing ecstasy, after authorities say he victimized a college student he met on State Street.
A Dane County court commissioner set bail Friday for 37-year old Jonathan Evenson at $70,000.
A criminal complaint states Evenson met the woman on State Street around 1:45 a.m. Sept. 5, as she stumbled around from the effects of drinking with friends on her birthday. The complaint states Evenson offered her a ride, and she accepted, over the objections of one of her friends, and a cab driver who had pulled up.
The complaint states Evenson took the 22-year old woman to the office of his law firm on West Washington Avenue, gave her ecstasy, and had sex with her several times.
Authorities say the woman only remembers the office's conference room, repelling Evenson's attempts to kiss her, and waking up at Evenson's home in the morning.
The complaint states Evenson texted the woman after their encounter, writing, "We were two drunk people having fun," and "Everything you did, you did voluntarily."
In 2010, Evenson beat up former Badgers kicker Phillip Welsh and another man, in separate confrontations in bars.
Authorities say Evenson told detectives he had been "really out of control" most of this summer.
The sexual assault charges Evenson faces deal specifically with intoxicated victims.
Evenson formerly worked as a prosecutor for the Village of Shorewood. A representative of his former law firm says Evenson was fired Sept. 11 because of his personal conduct.
MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say a 37-year-old Madison man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a college student earlier this month.
Police say the 22-year-old victim was very intoxicated and celebrating her birthday when the suspect, Jonathan G. Evenson approached her on State Street. Authorities say he took her to his downtown business office and later to his Westside home, where she was sexually assaulted and given ecstasy.
Evenson was arrested Wednesday on tentative charges of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and delivery of a non-narcotic, according to police.
