MADISON (WKOW) -- The Hmong community hosted a celebration today in honor of a new professor hired to lead Hmong American studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The event included traditional Hmong food, music, and dancing. In addition several representatives of the Hmong community throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota were present.
UW-Madison students started petitioning for Hmong American studies at the university more than a decade ago.
The Hmong American studies courses will include topics such as race, education, history and religion.
