WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says President Barack Obama has told congressional leaders he still won't negotiate over re-opening the government or raising the nation's borrowing limit.
WASHINGTON (WKOW) – The government entered day two of shutdown on Wednesday with no end in sight and no scheduled talks to resolve the shutdown.
Neither Democrats nor republicans seem willing to budge on the issue. On Tuesday, Republicans tried to fund some parts of the government like national parks and veteran benefits. However, the measures were not enough for Democrats who want a full government spending plan.
President Obama says the Republicans shut down the government over an ideological crusade against his health care law. While House Speaker John Boehner says Democrats slammed the door by refusing to negotiate.
A conservative group is airing T. V. ads urging Democrats to eliminate funding for the health care law to resolve the shutdown. It is expected to cost the group about $500,000 a week.
As for the shutdown itself, economic consulting firm HIS Global Insight says the hold up in Washington could cost the country $300 Million a day. That is roughly $12.5 Million dollars an hour or $1.6 Billion dollars per week.
HIS says the analysis accounts only for the lost wages and productivity from the nearly 800,000 furloughed federal workers.
