ROME (WKOW) – An Italian official says 94 bodies have been recovered at a migrant shipwreck off the island of Lampedusa.
Health officials expect to the death toll to rise as the recovery effort continues on Thursday because more than 200 people are still missing.
The Italian coast guard says the ship that was trying to smuggle Africans into Europe caught fire as the migrants got close to Lampedusa and capsized, sending hundreds of passengers into the sea.
Authorities say about 150 people have been rescued.
