Matthews Could Miss Significant Time

GREEN BAY (WKOW)-- Packers linebacker Clay Matthews could be sidelined for one month, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. A league source told Schefter that Matthews will likely need surgery to repair a broken thumb.

Matthews injured the thumb on the final play of the third quarter on Sunday while sacking Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford.

In his weekly Monday press conference, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Matthews was undergoing more testing. McCarthy was hopeful his star defender would not miss extensive time.

"You have to get all the information. It's important for the specialists to look at that. They're all different. We had guys who played with them, didn't miss any time with our club. You've had guys play with clubs and guys that have had season-ending surgery."
