MADISON (WKOW) -- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is rallying support among college students for a cause.
Rodgers joined the Enough Project to rally at UW-Madison campus Monday night. The group talked about efforts to end conflict in Congo.
Activists are encouraging young people especially to become more aware of where their electronics and jewelry are coming from, and the violence that brings some of the materials to make the items to the U.S.
Enough is working to end the war in Congo and stop genocide there. Rodgers is the group's newest ambassador for the cause. He and other activists are planning a trip to Congo after football season.
Rodgers says he wants his legacy to be remembered for more than just Packers football.
"Often we think about things going on in COngo as out of sight out of mind, but this is something we can have a tangible impact on if we decide to take a stand," Rodgers says.
Rodgers brought along his teammate, Packers linebacker Andy Mulumba, who is from Congo. Mulumba says on behalf of all the Congolese people, he's very grateful for the support here in America.
Actress Emmanuelle Chriqui was also at the rally at the Memorial Union Terrace. She says it's important to get students and young people involved because they're likely to fight for change.
"That's the demographic, so if we can get students involved to get the electronics companies to.. all we're asking for is source your minerals elsewhere, conflict-free," says Chriqui.
UW-Madison is one of more than 150 college campuses taking part in the conflict-free campus initiative to talk about bringing peace to Congo.
