MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Thousands of Veterans Affairs employees are feeling the impact of the government shutdown.
Many were sent home Tuesday when they showed up to work at the office in west Milwaukee.
Even veterans had to be turned away.
James Fialkowsi with the American Legion worries if this drags on, veterans will not see a pension check for the month of October.
"I've got thousands of veterans who live off, solely off , of the payment from the VA their compensation checks, their pension checks...especially pension...they're the most needy veterans out there."
The VA announced Monday that 7,000 employees would be furloughed nationwide and public access to regional offices would be suspended.
