VILLAGE OF HAZEL GREEN (WKOW) -- The attorney for the Village of Hazel Green says the village's police chief resigned last month after he showed up under the influence for an investigative interview.
Village attorney Eileen Brownlee says Police Chief Brian Klein had been on paid leave since September 11 after the village asked Platteville police to investigate claims from residents that Klein had been working while under the influence of alcohol.
Brownlee says Klein registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.07 percent when he showed up for an interview with a Platteville detective on September 19. That's just short of Wisconsin's legal drinking limit of 0.08.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Brownlee says the meeting "was the catalyst" for Klein's resignation. It took effect September 30.
The village is located in the southwest corner of Wisconsin.
