MIDDLETON (WKOW) – A Middleton man is behind bars after police say he assaulted a woman and then beat up a responding police officer.
Authorities responded to the 2000 block of Middleton Street around 9:53 p.m. for reports of a disturbance where the suspect had forced entry into a home and physically assaulted a resident.
Middleton Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Jason R. Klingbeil. Responding officers say Klingbeil kicked down the door, assaulted the woman as she attempted to call 911, breaking her phone in the process. According to the report, the woman and her neighbor ran upstairs and were able to call 911.
The first responding officer confronted Klingbeil outside the residence, who then kicked the officer in the upper torso. Eventually Klingbeil was subdued with a taser and taken into custody. The officer was transported to the hospital and later released.
Klingbeil was taken to the hospital but is now at the Dane County Jail. Klingbeil faces multiple charges including battery, resisting officers, criminal trespass to a dwelling, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim.
