WKOW text message subscribers: Respond Monday and Tuesday to keep the messages coming
If you subscribe to WKOW text messages, watch your phone for important messages next Monday and Tuesday.
You will receive text messages from us, asking you to OPT IN, to each of the services you've signed up for in the past. Those services may include breaking news alerts, weather information, school closings, programming announcements and special offers. You MUST reply to ALL messages as directed, to stay connected.
For example, if you subscribe to any of our news, weather or programming messages, you will receive a single message on Monday morning that looks like this:
WKOW: Keep our text alerts coming. To comply w/ new law, Reply OK to accept msgs from an autodialed system. Consent not required for purchase. STOP=stop, HELP=help
When you respond OK, you will continue to get the messages for which you are already subscribed.
If you subscribe to a mobile marketing club to get special offers, you will receive one or more messages on Tuesday asking you to opt into those clubs as well.
Like other text message providers, we are doing the re-opt-in process to comply with new federal consumer protection law which takes effect on October 16th. The federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) was originally designed to protect consumers from telemarketer harassment. It now covers SMS text messaging because these messages are also delivered by phone. As of October 16th, the law requires consumers who sign up for text messages to acknowledge two things:
1) Text messages come from an automated system
2) Consent is not required to purchase goods and services
Other than agreeing to that, nothing about our text message services will change. They will continue to be fast and free. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply.
Once you've opted-in again, you will continue to enjoy the text messages you've come to depend on. Again, you must reply to our messages on Monday and Tuesday if you're already a subscriber, or the messages from us will stop.
If you're not signed up, we encourage you to do so. Click here for the sign up page.
