COTTAGE GROVE (WKOW) -- The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim of the fatal head-on crash near Deerfield.

24-year-old Courtney L. Weichmann from Cambridge was killed when her car struck an oncoming dump truck on October 12.

CAMBRIDGE (WKOW) -- A Cambridge woman has died in a head-on crash with a dump truck.

Cottage Grove police say around 8:30 Saturday morning the 24-year-old woman was driving west on 12/18 near Highway BN when her vehicle crossed the center line, striking an eastbound dump truck. The truck driver wasn't seriously hurt and has been released from the hospital.

Police Chief Chris Hughes says an initial investigation shows the truck driver attempted to avoid a crash and it is unknown why the female driver crossed the center line.

Officials believe neither alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the crash.

The highway was closed for nearly five hours while investigators were on scene. It is now reopened.

DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- The Cottage Grove Police Department says one person was killed in a crash on US-12, near the intersection of County Road BN.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation says a head on two-vehicle crash on Highway 12 happened around 8:40 a.m. on October 12.

According to officials on scene, the accident involved a car and a dump truck.  The accident was so powerful that after impact the dump truck lost the ability to steer and went into a ditch.  The male dump truck driver was uninjured.  The female car driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

US-12 and US-18 are closed in both directions, westbound at Deerfield Road and eastbound at North Star Road.

According to Dane County Communications, the lanes of traffic are planned to be closed for several hours.  Officials were on scene for accident reconstruction.

There is an alternative route. For eastbound traffic, one would be to turn south on North Star Road to Schadel Road.  Turn east to Deerfield Road and turn north on Deerfield Road. Then, return to US-12/US-18. West bound traffic would have reverse directions.

As of 12:30 p.m., the roads were still closed.
