MADISON (WKOW) – Madison Police are searching for the person who stole a vehicle Sunday night and led them on a chase.
Authorities responded to the parking lot of the Mobile Gas Station on the 3000 block of East Washington Avenue around 11:15 p.m.
According to the incident report, the male suspect took the vehicle as it was left running while the owner went into the store.
Responding officers located the stolen vehicle and followed it about one mile towards Blair Street near John Nolen Drive. During the pursuit, the suspect accelerated at a high rate of speed attempting to elude the officer. Authorities believed the suspect reached speeds in upwards of about 100 mph.
Officials say the suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle after negotiating a turn onto W. Lakeside Street, abandoned the vehicle and then fled on foot along the railroad tracks.
After conducting a search using the K-9 unit, authorities say the male suspect remains at large. The victim told police that the suspect might have been dropped off by another vehicle at the Mobil Gas Station just prior to the theft. An officer says a white Cadillac sedan ahead of the fleeing vehicle when the stop was initiated. Authorities believe the suspect may have been picked up after fleeing on foot.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the pursuit and no other property was damaged.
