MADISON (WKOW) -- About 50 percent of Americans don't go to the dentist, but studies have shown that good oral hygiene can improve overall health.
October is National Dental Hygiene Month. It's an effort to raise awareness about the importance of oral health and oral disease prevention.
An estimated nine to 15 percent of Americans avoid dental care because of their anxiety about pain and needles, but there are ways to get over the anxiety.
Dr. Mark Olsen, from West Prairie Dental in Sun Prairie, joins us on 27 News at 5 on Friday to talk about National Dental Hygiene Month and ways to alleviate anxiety about going to the dentist.
