MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison community members gathered Friday to celebrate nonviolence and the efforts made to prevent future violence.
The event, sponsored by the Dane County Domestic Violence Task Force, included a dinner and award ceremony for those who have helped bring awareness to domestic abuse.
But Dr. Darald Hanusa of the Midwest Domestic Violence Resource Center says the event served another important purpose by reminding abuse victims that support is always available.
"When you look at the audience it's not just professionals, it's victims as well who come and kinda hear the word and know that we're out there working in their benefit," said Hanusa.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Rainbow Foundation of Madison, a non-profit organization that provides support and other services to children and families who have suffered from stress or trauma.
