WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- Waunakee community members gathered today to help end hunger in Afghanistan.
Food for Kidz held the event, which consisted of volunteers using assembly lines to package bagged meals. Each bag includes rice, soy powder, vitamins, minerals, and dehydrated vegetables.
Organizers say with over $30,000 in donations, 1,100 volunteers and an expected 200,000 meals made, the event will help many in need, but they couldn't do it without the support of the Waunakee community.
"The community loves it! This is the eighth year doing this, and we had so many people sign up now that we're going to have to find jobs for them," said organizer Eric Juergens.
Since the event's creation, volunteers have packaged 1,045,000 meals for those suffering from hunger.
