UPDATE (WKOW) -- Police say when an ambulance was called to a quiet neighborhood on Sun Prairie's west side Tuesday they discovered a child with life threatening injuries.
"The Sun Prairie Police Department has subsequently opened a child abuse investigation," Assistant Police Chief Scott Faust tells 27 News.
Police haven't said if the owners or someone else inside the home on Barrington Circle where emergency crews responded was involved. Thursday, a police squad car remained in front of the home. Neighbors say officials have been on the scene since Tuesday.
Neighbor Lee Martinson says this is the first time he's seen police activity on the block. He's lived in the same home on Barrington Circle for 21 years. "Where the house is, where the incident took place, they have approximately four children," he says. Martinson adds that he noticed another family with a small child moved in about a month ago.
Police won't say if any arrests have been made or release details about the circumstances surrounding the suspected abuse. "This is an ongoing and very serious investigation and as a result, in an effort not to compromise the investigation we can reveal no other details at this time," Faust says.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation. Police say there's no threat to the community.
