MADISON (WKOW) -- A Janesville man was charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery, after authorities say the man punched two strangers because they were speaking in Hebrew.
23-year old Dylan Grall was arrested on a tentative hate crime charge, but his appearance in Dane County Court Tuesday involved no hate crime.
Authorities say Grall punched the men, both in their twenties, around bar time Saturday morning on Madison's North Henry Street. Authorities say Grall complained the men were not speaking English.
According to a criminal complaint, Grall thought the men were speaking Spanish.
Grall was released from jail on a signature bond.
MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police Department reports a man was arrested for two counts of battery with a hate crime enhancer.
The incident happened early Saturday morning on North Henry Street. Two men were speaking Hebrew when 23-year-old Dylan T. Grall swore at them and demanded them to speak English.
Grall hit the two men, a 22-year-old Illinois man and a 23-year-old Milwaukee man.
Grall denies hitting the two, but he admits to telling them to speak English. Grall thought they were conversing in Spanish.
Another witness says the suspect did attack the victims.
