No. 2 Badgers women's hockey and Bulldogs play to 2-2 tie
DULUTH, Minn. – After 65 minutes of hard fought hockey, the No. 2 Wisconsin women's hockey team (11-2-2, 7-2-2-1 WCHA) earned a 2-2 tie against Minnesota Duluth (7-5-3, 5-5-3-2) Friday night at AMSOIL Arena.
UMD took an early 1-0 lead after Demi Crossman tipped in a bouncing puck at the 12:11 mark in the first period. Less than two minutes, sophomore Courtney Burke answered for the Badgers pouncing on a rebound after senior Madison Packer fired it at UMD goaltender Kayla Black to knot the score at one apiece.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the second after Jamie Kenyon beat UW goaltender Alex Rigsby on a one-timer at the 8:19 mark.
Wisconsin tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period as Packer lit the lamp for the fifth time this year off assists from freshman Sarah Nurse and junior Katarina Zgraja.
After a scoreless overtime period, the Badgers fell 1-0 in the shootout as Meghan Huertas flipped the puck past Rigsby during the first round of the shootout to give UMD an extra point in the league standings.
The two teams wrap up their series tomorrow in a 6 p.m. contest.
