KENOSHA (WKOW) -- A day-long standoff in Kenosha ends with a man in custody, and a woman's found dead in the basement of the home.

Police were called to the home around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday by a man who reported his brother had shot and killed a woman inside the home, according to WISN in Milwaukee. Kenosha Police Chief John Morrissey told WISN, "We had very good information that there had, in fact, been a shooting. The suspect refused to come out, refused to cooperate with us."

Police tried to negotiate with the suspect, but they were going nowhere so around 3:00 p.m., they decided to go in. Morrissey tells WISN, "So they did an explosive breach into the residence. The subject was taken into custody with very little resistance. A gun was located."

Police found the dead woman in the basement. They believe she was the suspect's domestic partner.

Students at a nearby school were kept inside for recess during the incident.
