MADISON (WKOW) -- If you were near the capitol Saturday morning you probably wondered why people were running around...in swimsuits.
It was the second annual Madison Santa Swimsuit Run. The event raises money for two local charities, Gio's Garden and Run Strong Wisconsin, which help Madison children. The final numbers aren't in quite yet, but organizers say they had more than $7,000 in donations as of Saturday morning before the race.
More than 300 people participated in the event, but only a handful were brave enough to handle the cold.
"They're fun people, they're charitable...we just enjoy having them out here today, especially when the wind chill is 10 below zero," says organizer Jerry Kempfer.
After the run participants got to enjoy some food and beer at the Majestic Theatre, where they held a costume contest for some of the runners.
