Local hardware stores expect more business with winter storms

MADISON (WKOW) -- Local hardware stores say many people planned ahead for Sunday's storm.

So far this year, businesses we spoke with say they've seen a steady stream of customers looking for supplies. Especially on days where the snow comes down and the roads are slick.

Hardware store workers are warning people to make sure they're buying the right things.

"We've also unfortunately been selling a lot of regular softener salt, and the softener salt will work up 'till anything at five degrees but anything below 5 degrees the softener salt will not melt," Dorn True Value sales associate David Praedel says.

Stores say that snow blowers have been selling quickly this year but things like salt, sand and shovels are also available.
