Small community mourns deaths of elderly couple

IRON RIVER (WKOW) -- An elderly couple from Bayfield County is being mourned by their community after they were attacked in their home.

Sheriff's officials identify the couple as 79-year-old Jim Crain and 76-year-old Eunice Crain, of Iron River. Authorities say a 44-year-old man, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, is being held under guard at a hospital in Duluth, Minnesota and is a suspect in the homicides.

Deputies responded to a 911 call to the couple's home shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday about a fight in progress. Authorities found the couple dead in their apartment and the man injured.

Those who knew the Crains say the couple was loving and well-respected in the community.

Autopsies are being done at the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office.
