MADISON (WKOW) -- The City of Madison has 28 sanding crews treating roads early Tuesday morning.
They've been out since about 5:30 a.m. With temperatures right around five degrees and light snow falling, crews are using sand instead of salt, which won't work in these conditions. Sand will not melt any snow, but it will act as an abrasive and give drivers traction.
The snow is causing back-ups on the Beltline, on I-39/90 south getting onto the Beltline, on Highway 14 northbound and on Verona Road hearing north.
