UPDATE: Pipe bursts at WI DNR headquarters

Posted:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Officials expect conditions to return to normal Wednesday, after a pipe burst at the state Natural Resources building in downtown Madison.

A Department of Administration spokesperson says the building was closed to employees around 1 p.m. Tuesday because of flooding on floors 1-7.

A final cause has not yet been determined, but officials believe the HVAC system wasn't working properly overnight, causing pipes to freeze and then burst. Plumbers and cleanup crews worked all day and DNR staff were allowed to work from home.

The heating system is now working and the building should be dry by Wednesday. At this time there is no cost estimate of damage.

The DNR's call center remained open throughout the incident.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Cleanup is underway at the state Department of Natural Resources' headquarters in Madison after a pipe burst Monday night that caused flooding.

Stephanie Marquis, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Administration, says there is flooding on the building's ground floor as well as on the first, second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh floors. She said she didn't have a cost estimate of damage.

DNR spokesman Bill Cosh told the Wisconsin State Journal the pipe that broke was in the building's heating system. He said the building's cafeteria and licensing are have been closed. He didn't immediately return a telephone message The Associated Press left at his office.

Employees are being allowed to work from home.
