Poynette woman arrested after deadly weekend crash

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WKOW) -- A Poynette woman was arrested for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after a deadly crash this weekend.

47-year-old Barbara Dorshorst was taken into custody after the crash on Saturday.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. Saturday on County Trunk Highway J in the town of Dekorra, about five miles north of Poynette.

The preliminary investigation shows the SUV Dorshorst was driving left the road while going around a curve and then ran head-on into a tree.

The passenger of the SUV, 78-year-old Caroline Hebel of Poynette, died before she could be taken to the hospital by MedFlight.

Investigators say Hebel was not wearing a seatbelt.

The sheriff's department says Dorshorst was not hurt. Investigators say she was wearing a seatbelt and her airbag deployed.

Dorshorst was released Monday from the Columbia County Jail on a signature bond.
