RHINELANDER (WKOW) -- An outbreak of illnesses is prompting a northern Wisconsin elementary school to call off classes on Friday.
Pelican Elementary School in Rhinelander will be closed Friday because of a variety of illnesses among students and staff. The school district says the two main illnesses are gastrointestinal and upper respiratory with fever.
The Oneida County Health Department tells WSAW-TV that about 30 percent of the school's 295 students are sick. That percentage does not include a number of staff members who also are ill.
The school will reopen on Monday.
