MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin state Sen. Tim Cullen, of Janesville, is recovering from open heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
Cullen's office said Tuesday the senator had valve replacement surgery on December 5 at the clinic in Rochester, Minn. In the written statement, his office says Cullen was aware of the problem since April and the surgery was not an emergency.
The 69-year-old expects to return for the legislative session beginning in January.
Cullen, a Democrat, announced in September he would not seek another term. He has been in the Senate since 2011, after previously serving from 1975 to 1988.
