BELOIT (WKOW) -- The City of Beloit says roads are extremely slippery Friday morning.
The Department of Public Works pre-sprayed the roads Thursday night, but the temperatures Friday morning were very cold. Because of the excessive ice on the roads, the DPW is now spreading sand in Beloit to help drivers get more traction.
The City of Beloit urges residents to stay home if at all possible today. They say options trips should be put off until the weather and road conditions improve.
MADISON (WKOW) -- Roads very icy after freezing drizzle and rain coats the streets.
A layer of thin ice has formed over the streets. Madison Streets Superintendent, Christ Kelly, says they added about eight trucks as of 2:00 a.m. on Friday to start sanding residential streets. There are a total of 30 salt trucks on the roadways and eight sanders.
The main arterials are in good winter driving condition as they are wet from the salt, but slippery in spots. The secondary streets on our salt routes have also all been salted.
The residential streets where salt is not applied are icy and slippery. You can travel on them but drive carefully.
Dane County Communications says if you slide off the road to stay in your car and call 911.
