MADISON (WKOW) -- Anglers will get a chance to fish for free in Wisconsin for one weekend next month.
The Department of Natural Resources will allow anglers to fish anywhere in the state on the weekend of January 18 and January 19 without a license or a trout stamp. The free weekend applies to all inland waters and Wisconsin's side of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. Anglers must still abide by bag and size limits, however.
The DNR will let anglers who lack equipment borrow ice-fishing tip-ups and jigging rods from a number of state park and agency offices. A list of loaner sites is available on the DNR's website.
