Nathan Middleton gets new attorney

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- The Rock County man accused of burning a woman's body and then plotting to escape from jail has a new attorney.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports Nathan Middleton's previous attorney withdrew because he unknowingly delivered a letter from Middleton to Middleton's mother, which detailed the escape plan.

On Monday, Middleton waived preliminary hearings for his two court cases.

Middleton is charged in connection with the death of Aprina Paul. Police say he admitted to hiding and mutilating her body, but Middleton has said he did not kill her.

While he was in jail, authorities say Middleton spoke with other inmates about an escape plan and sent the letter to his mother asking her to help break him out.

Middleton's next court appearance is in January.
