UPDATE: QB Rodgers will play Sunday with playoff spot on the line

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- Aaron Rodgers has been cleared to play, and he will start Sunday when Green Bay plays at Chicago with the NFC North division title and a playoff spot on the line.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy made the official announcement during a Thursday afternoon news conference. The team listed Rodgers as a full participant in Thursday's practice.

Rodgers has not played since Green Bay's November 4 game against the Bears, when Rodgers was sacked and broke his collar bone in the first quarter. Counting that game, the Packers are 2-5-1 since losing Rodgers.

In recent weeks, Rodgers has expressed frustration at not been cleared to play.

The team lost a key game at home against the Steelers this past Sunday, but their playoff hopes remained alive after the Bears lost in a blowout to the Eagles later that day.

The winner of Sunday's game will punch their ticket to the NFL postseason and host a first round playoff game. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m. at Soldier Field in Chicago.

GREEN BAY (WKOW) --- Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy is expected to announce whether Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will play on Sunday at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will miss Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears for the NFC North title after aggravating a right thumb injury.

Matthews got hurt during a sack in Sunday's 38-31 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Matthews missed four games earlier this season after initially breaking the thumb in Week 5 in October.

We will be following the news conference at 1:15 p.m. today and will update here on www.wkow.com
