MADISON (WKOW) -- wolf hunters and trappers in Wisconsin ended the season slightly over quota.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the 2013 season ended with 257 wolves harvested. That's six animals over the 251 limit.
Monday evening, Zone 3 was the sixth and last zone to close.
The closure for Zone 3 was initiated Saturday, when wolf 64 was killed. The quota for that zone was 71. Hunters took 75 wolves in Zone 3, four over.
The wolf season here in Wisconsin was to run through the end of February, unless hunters reached their statewide limit.
The 2012-13 season ended two months early on Dec. 23 as well after hunters exceeded their 116 wolf limit by one animal.
