MADISON (WKOW) - - With New Year's Eve celebrations right around the corner, the Dane County Sheriff's Department is reminding everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride home.
For the 20th straight year, Madison Metro will be offering free rides from 7:00 p.m. - 3:30 a.m., and the Dane County Tavern League will also be offering a safe ride program free of charge.
The department says with so many safe ride options offered in Madison, there's no reason for anyone to drink and drive on New Year's.
Sheriff Dave Mahoney says, "So as people are out at our area restaurants, at our other areas of hospitality, plan ahead so that at the end of the evening you get a safe ride home, a free ride home if necessary to begin a new year."
Another tip for travelers on New Year's, even if you haven't been drinking other driver may have. So always wear your seatbelt and give driving your full attention.
