GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy stated "We're very thankful to Packers fans and our partners for ensuring Sunday's game will be sold out."
That's right, all tickets for Sunday's NFC Wild Card Playoff game between the Packers and San Francisco have been sold.
Fans and a group of Packers' corporate partners purchased the remaining tickets to ensure a sellout and avoid a blackout of the game being broadcast in several markets across the state.
"A unique season and other factors contributed to having tickets available, but with the support of our fans and partners, we're looking forward to a great atmosphere Sunday at Lambeau Field," said Murphy.
GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- The Green Bay Packers have received an extension from the NFL to sell out Sunday's playoff game against the 49ers to avoid a home market blackout.
The team still has 3,000 tickets to sell before 4 p.m. CT on Friday. At the beginning of the week, there were still 40,000 tickets available at the 80,750-seat Lambeau Field. If those tickets go unsold, that means fans in Green Bay, Milwaukee and Wausau won't be able to watch the game on TV, due to NFL rules.
The Packers aren't the only team that needed an extension. Both the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts were given extra time to sell more tickets. Indianapolis has even received a second extension to fill the remaining seats for their Saturday game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- There are still more than 7,000 Packers playoff tickets available for Sunday's game against the 49ers.
If all those tickets aren't sold by this afternoon, the NFL could black out the game in the Green Bay, Milwaukee and Wausau areas.
The deadline to sell those tickets is 72 hours before kick-off, so 3:40 p.m. Thursday.
A lot of season ticket holder passed on securing seats for this playoff game, so there were thousands of tickets left over for the general public. Travis Loftus with Ticket King says, "Usually most playoff games the Packers will have a couple hundred tickets left to sell to the general public so this is kind of an unnerving feeling to see that out there."
The Packers organization may ask the NFL to extend that deadline today.
