Water Utility busy with water main breaks

MADISON (WKOW) -- Recent frigid temperatures are keeping water utility crews busy. They've repaired three water main breaks since Thursday night, and are preparing for more as we drop well below zero Sunday night.
Crews say after they arrive at a main break, repairs usually take two to three hours, but could take longer in the extreme cold.

Steve Kelso of the Madison Water Utility says, "We make sure we have a lot of warm clothes, changing layers and come back through, if we get cold we jump in the truck and warm up, then come back out, everybody knows that you cant be out all that time."

Signs of a water main break include a sudden drop in water pressure, water bubbling up through a crack in the street, or large puddles. If you believe there is a water main break in your area, call the Madison Water Utility immediately at 608-266-4661.
