WINONA, MN (WKOW) -- Officials recovered two bodies from a car that plunged through the ice into the Mississippi River early Sunday morning.

Winona County responders discovered a broken guard rail, a license plate and other debris on Riverview Drive in Winona around 7:15 a.m. after people reported seeing tire tracks leading into the river.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand tells WXOW-TV an underwater camera found the car and it was pulled out of the water around noon. Two bodies were found inside, one male and one female.
The license plate found on the ice is registered to a 36-year-old woman from Winona. The Winona Daily News says the woman was identified as Christina Lee Hauser, 36, of Winona. The name of the 30-year-old man found inside has not been released.

Brand says he thinks the crash happened around 1:30 Sunday morning. The incident is still under investigation.
