JACKSON CO. (WKOW) -- The man charged with killing his father in Jackson County is pleading innocent by insanity.
Lars Helgeson entered the plea this week. His public defenders have said that it's clear from the evidence that Helgeson is "a very troubled and sick young man".
Helgeson is charged with shooting his father, Brian Helgeson, four times in mid-September. Investigators say he admitted to then pouring gasoline on the body and burning it, then burying it on the farm where they both lived.
A friend of Lars Helgeson told investigators Lars told him that "God wanted [his father] gone" and that "it was a government deal".
Helgeson will now undergo a mental evaluation.
