MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County supervisors decided Thursday to take the issue of legalized marijuana to voters.
They approved an advisory referendum for the April ballot with this question: Should the state government enact legislation legalizing marijuana?
A member of a pro-cannabis group said the voices of Dane County voters need to be heard on this issue.
"There's a tremendous buzz on this around the country. We saw tremendous excitement in Colorado when storefronts opened there January 1. So this is something people are interested in and I think the sooner we can let citizens weigh in, the better," says Gary Storck of "Is My Medicine Legal Yet?"
More than 20 states allow medical marijuana, and Colorado recently opened the nation's first recreational pot industry.
