MADISON (WKOW) -- State scientists say that iron mining in Northern Wisconsin could be a threat to human health, and the water supply. These new claims come in a lengthy internal Department of Natural Resources report designed to brief agency regulators.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that Gogebic Taconite, the company that was hoping to dig that mine in Iron and Ashland County feels the report shows bias in the DNR. Giving "a laundry list of the kind of stuff you hear from protestors"
The DNR has confirmed the authenticity of the 103 page report saying that its a tool for identifying issues the agency needs to review and will not replace the Environmental Impact Study.
