UPDATE (WKOW) -- Police are accusing two people of forcing a 16-year-old girl into prostitution in Janesville. Information from the young victim helped lead to the arrests, according to Janesville Detective Erik Goth.
"The information she provided was substantial enough to support drafting a search warrant," he says.
Authorities say they searched a home on the 2300 block of Center Ave. Thursday. Patrick Cooper and Erica White, who had been living on the upper level, have been charged with soliciting a child for prostitution.
"The information that I have is that there were a number of customers coming from all locations in Southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois," Goth says.
Vondra Vogel says her family lives downstairs in the same home. "I can't believe something like that was going on right upstairs from where I lived...a little concerned about the clientele. I hope they know that's not going on here no more and don't try and come back to this residence," she says.
Police say other prostitutes were working out of the home but the teen, who had run away from Walworth County, is the only minor they know of so far.
"Unfortunately, I'm not surprised that it is going on. It happens everywhere. It happens behind closed doors pretty regularly, it's hard to track these cases and it's hard to find them," YWCA of Rock County Crisis Services Director Alison Hiam says.
She says kids in vulnerable situations are often targeted by the perpetrators. "If there's a child in your life that you're concerned about, being able to talk to them about who they could talk to if something was happening, resources they can," she says about making sure they're not in a dangerous situation.
