UPDATE: Power back on for Madison southwest side


UPDATE (WKOW) --- Power was restored just before 4:15 p.m.

Alliant Energy says the cause of the outage was bad underground electric cable that had to be located and repaired.


MADISON (WKOW) --- Alliant Energy says they have more than 950 c

ustomers on the city's

southwest side without power.

It happened at 2:10 p.m. and impacts the area near Verona Road and McKee Road including traffic lights.

Right now crews are investigating, they did find a severed line and are repairing it.

Here is release from police:

As of January 10, 2014 at 3:45 P.M., parts of the west side of Fitchburg are experiencing
a power outage due to a severed line. As a result of this power outage, the traffic control lights on McKee Rd at the intersections of Verona Rd. (US 18), Nesbitt Rd., and Fitchrona Rd. are inoperable. Alliant Energy states that crews are working to restore power and they hope that is done by 4:30 P.M. Heavy traffic congestion should be expected near these intersections. If possible, please use alternate routes.
