MADISON (WKOW) -- A local organization marks National Human Trafficking Awareness Day Saturday with an event in Madison.
SlaveFree Madison teamed up with Change Boutique to hold, "Design a Future Without Trafficking." Local victim advocates and service providers talked about what kind of problem this is in Dane County. Organizers say their message is becoming more visible.
"Awareness is definitely growing. We're seeing a lot more people when we go to events, they're like 'oh yes, human trafficking, I've heard about that.' Whereas before, people would say, 'I've heard about that but I'm glad that it doesn't happen here," SlaveFree Madison Chair Jessica Moran tells 27 News.
Organizers say people could also create t-shirts for the cause. This is one of many events put on by SlaveFree Madison. Moran says they also hope to raise awareness about labor trafficking.
