UPDATE: Roads shut down across Wisconsin due to snow

MARATHON COUNTY (WKOW) - A multi-car crash involving more than 20 vehicles has closed part of I-39 in Marathon County near Knowlton, according to the Marathon County Sheriff's Department.

That's just north of the Marathon-Portage County line.

Sheriff's officials say I-39 has been closed to all northbound traffic. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the highway closed around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officials there say all lanes of I-39 and US 51 northbound will be closed for more than two hours.

If you can, use alternate routes. Northbound traffic will exit at County Road DB and go west to Wisconsin 34, then east back to I-39, according to the Department of Transportation

Grant County officials say do not travel if not needed as roads there are slippery and snow covered.

In the Eau Claire area, officials say many of the roads there are not to be traveled on.
