Monroe Schools athletics director cited for Hit and Run

Posted:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Green County Sheriff's Office says its deputies and Monticello Police responded to a report of a hit and run Sunday morning involving 45-year-old David Hirsbrunner.

The Business Administrator for Monroe Schools confirmed to 27 News that driver is the same David Hirsbrunner who is athletics director for the district.

Hirsbrunner was cited for Hit and Run to an Attended Vehicle, as well as Operating Left of Center, and was released pending a court appearance.

David Hirsbrunner's wife, Cory Hirsbrunner, is the superintendent of Monroe Schools. District Business Administrator Ron Olson tells 27 News David Hirsbrunner's immediate supervisor, not the superintendent, will look into the matter. He also said it's unclear at this point if Hersbrunner's citation for hit and run will evolve into a personnel matter.

A report from the Green Co. Sheriff's Office says the call of the crash came in at 2:28 a.m. Sunday. It happened in the N7400 block of state highway 69 in the Town of New Glarus.  Jason Hesselbacher, a 39-year-old from Lena, Ill., was driving a semi tanker north on 69, when Hirsbrunner's SUV veered left of center and struck the rear portion of the tanker. Hesselbacher reported the crash after Hirsbrunner fled the scene, driving south, and Monticello Police found Hirsbrunner's disabled SUV behind a closed business in the Village of Monticello.

The sheriff's office says Hesselbacher, Hirsbrunner and Hirsbrunner's passenger were not injured and all three were properly restrained. Both Hirsbrunner's vehicle and the tanker had moderate damage.
