Ice skaters raise money for Dane County Humane Society

MADISON (WKOW) -- Community members showed their support for Dane County Humane Society on Monday by putting on their ice skates.

Madison Ice Inc hosted a community skating event at Hartmeyer Ice Arena to benefit DHCS.

Shelter official Nick Pelzer says they couldn't continue to operate without the help like this.

"We're so thankful for the support that we get, not only from Hartmeyer Ice Arena, but from the families and children out here today supporting us."

This event has raised thousands of dollars, as well as boxes of donations filled with cat and dog food, treats, toys and supplies for the humane society. Pelzer says they were hoping to raise more than $1,500 on Monday.

U.S. Olympic gold medal speed skater, Casey FitzRandolph and his family joined the community for the skating event.
